Novia Double Sided Butyl Tape

Product Overview

Novia® Double-Sided Butyl Tape is a high performance jointing and sealing tape suitable for a wide range of applications where membranes require sealing against gas, air and water vapour ingress. Novia® Double-Sided Butyl Tape can be used when installing Air & Vapour Control Layers (AVCLs), Damp Proof Membranes (DPMs) and Gas Barriers. Novia® Double-Sided Butyl Tape is a cost effective, simple to use and produces little waste or mess, has good adhesion to a wide range of substrates and has a high initial tack. Novia® Double-Sided Butyl Tape is not suitable for use as the load-bearing element of a system and in some applications, such as the installation of AVCLs, mechanical fixings will also be required. It is recommended to apply pressure along joints to form a strong sealing bond. 

In AVCL, DPM and Gas Barrier applications, Novia® Double-Sided Butyl Tape should be used as part of a two-tape system, and installed with a single-sided lap tape such as Novia® BOPP Tape or Novia® Aluminium Foil Tape. For further information, see individual membrane datasheets. These will maximise air and gas-tightness and minimise interstitial condensation within AVCL installations.

Novia recommends a minimum of 30mm butyl tape for AVCL applications. However, wider width rolls, such as 50mm butyl tape, can allow for easier on-site applications. Increasing the surface area of butyl tape on the framework will allow for installers to more accurately penetrate the membrane (with mechanical fixings) through the butyl tape, and ensure an airtight seal is maintained. It is recommended that a minimum of 50mm butyl tape is used for gas barrier installations.
